Types of Tailings Embankments: Upstream, Downstream and Centerline Construction Methods
This video focuses on Mining Engineering. The main types of tailings embankment dams are discussed. Tailings are basically mining waste or the bi-product of the extraction of desired metals or oil from ore during mining operations.

What is Upstream in Oil and Gas?
Today let us dig in to one of the three phases of oil and gas industry, Upstream.
Like on what we've discussed on the first video. Upstream is the exploration and production phase.
Upstream refers to the phases of the oil and gas industry's activities that include exploration and development. Companies in the oil and gas industry can be classified into three categories: upstream, midstream, and downstream.
Many of the measures involved in the oil and gas industry's upstream market, from preliminary exploration to resource production, are referred to as upstream.
Upstream companies may be active in all phases of this process of the oil and gas industry's life cycle, or just a portion of it.
Geologists, scientists, geophysicists, service rig owners, engineering companies, and seismic ...

Gorgon Project—Upstream Facilities
Gorgon is one of the world's largest natural gas projects and the largest single resource development in Australia's history. The Gorgon Project’s subsea gas gathering system is the largest ever installed in Australia and features state-of-the-art infrastructure. Many components required for the system were beyond the limits of prior industry experience and were specifically developed and qualified for Gorgon.

The upstream segment of the oil and gas industry is all about wells. Where to locate them, how deep and how far to drill them, and how to efficiently recover any oil or gas from a producing field.
The upstream segment is arguably the most complex of all the oil and gas business sectors. It’s capital-intensive, high risk and tightly regulated.
Upstream investments are high-risk, given that results of every well drilled are unpredictable. Additional risk arises from safety and environmental issues.
The upstream segment is also known as the exploration and production, or E&P, sector. Exploration involves obtaining a lease and permission to drill, and conducting the surveys required to find oil or gas reservoirs. A wildcat well is first drilled in a previously unexplored area to test for the commercial presence of hydrocarbons.
Drilling is physically creating the borehole in the ground that will eventually become a well. This work is often done by rig and oilfield service contractors, not the oil companies themselves.
Production is bringing the petroleum to the surface from underground reservoirs. The production flow rate in every oil and gas field eventually declines, so enhanced oil recovery techniques are used to improve reservoir returns.
The goal of the upstream segment is to deliver the greatest possible return on investment with the safest and smallest operational footprint.

Geologists, scientists, geophysicists, service rig owners, engineering companies, and seismic and drilling contractors are among those working in the upstream sector.
These individuals are capable of locating and estimating reserves prior to any drilling activities that take place.
Exploration typically begins in a region with a strong probability of containing a resource, typically due to local geology and existing nearby petroleum deposits. Further exploration is carried out in high-potential areas in order to define a resource.
Induced polarization (IP) surveys, drilling and assaying, electrical currents, and other methods are used in geophysical and geochemical analysis. The aim of the exploration process is to locate and estimate a resource's capacity. Exploratory wells are drilled to assess the resource if a region appears to have the ability to host one.
Test drilling is an integral part of the discovery process in the oil and gas industry. If the exploratory well proves to be good, the next move is to drill wells and extract the resource. Wells that carry crude oil or natural gas to the surface are also operated by upstream companies.
The upstream portion of the company ends once the resource has been removed. Midstream companies gather raw materials and transport them to refineries via pipeline, rail, or tanker truck.
The downstream process of the oil and gas industry is refineries. They transform crude oil into finished petroleum products by processing it. They also market and distribute natural gas as well as crude oil-derived goods.
